33rd Inug-og Festival showcase Oroquieta's culture

OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental, Oct. 14 (PIA) -- Oroquieta residents and tourists were mesmerized by the colorful Inug-og Festival 2019 held at MOPAC Grounds.

Performers were dressed up in ethnic costumes while performing rituals in the street and dancing to the rhythm of the parade.

Every Inug-og Festival, one of the major attractions or crowd drawers is the street dancing and ritual showdown where students from different schools showcase the unique culture of Oroquieta.

In his message, City Mayor Lemuel Acosta expressed his gratitude as he welcomed all the people of Oroquietanon and visitors to celebrate with the City's Inug-og Festival.

Acosta said Oroquieta should be promoted by everyone that it is a place worth to live and worth to visit. "Muhangyo ko sa taga Oroquieta nga maski dili na panahon sa kapistahan ato tabangan e promote ang Oroquieta para maka himo ta ug mga bag-ong opportunidad para sa katawhan dinhi sa atong dakbayan (I am asking Oroquietanon to continue promoting Oroquieta City to create opportunities for the people here in the city)," he said.

He further said, "Pinaagi sa pag promote sa atong shudad ang mga turista mo sulod dinhi sa atong pinangang dakbayan (By promoting our city, we can encourage tourist to visit our beloved city)."

Meanwhile, Department of Tourism Region 10 Director Marie Elaine Unchuan revealed that Misamis Occidental is one of her favorite provinces in Northern Mindanao.

Unchuan shared, "One of the main features here is the cultural tourism and historical areas in region 10."

"We have been telling everybody that Misamis Occidental is one of the provinces that has a big potential not only in Region10 but the whole Philippines," she said.

Oroquieta City being the Capital of Misamis Occidental is one of the biggest development areas in terms of tourism.

According to Unchuan, "Next week, we will have the Philippine travel exchange which composed of International tour operators, they will visit Oroquieta and all tourist attractions of Misamis Occidental so that we can sell the tourist packages in MisOcc."

She also emphasized that the youth should help promote the Subanen culture.

For 2018 to 2019, Sinote National High School won the Inug-og Festival 2019. It won a cash prize of Php 150,000 and emerged 1st place for best street dancing, best in musicality, best in props and festival director.

The second place went to MisOcc Science & Technology High School and received Php 100,000. Further, it garnered 2nd Place for best in street dancing.

For the 3rd place, Rizal National High School and received, Php 80,000. Mobod Integrated School got for best in Costume and 3rd place of street dancing.

Inug-og is an ethnic festival featuring the Suban-on tribe of Misamis Occidental that is celebrated every 14th of October, The festival showcased tribal performance of street dancing and ritual showdown in tribute to Oroquieta City's patron saint, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary (SMRN/PIA MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL)
