Pirates Taillon discusses his cancer rehab

Sports Xchange - Saturday 20th May, 2017

Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Jameson Taillon is keeping an optimistic outlook in his recovery following surgery for testicular cancer.

"(I'm) feeling good now, feeling healthy. We're getting all good news back so far," Taillon said on Friday. "Going forward, it'll be something I have to monitor and stay on top of, something I'll carry with me the rest of my life."

Taillon, who said he is taking rehabilitation day by day, discovered the abnormality after being placed on the disabled list on May 6. He had tissue surgically removed two days later at Allegheny General Hospital.

The 25-year-old Taillon, who owns a 2-1 mark with a 3.31 ERA in six starts this season, was cleared to play catch and resume light cardiovascular drills Wednesday.

Taillon has a 7-5 career mark with a 3.36 ERA in 24 games since being selected with the second overall pick of the 2010 draft.

Pittsburgh also addressed its pitching staff on Friday by claiming right-hander Jhan Marinez off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers.

The 28-year-old Dominican posted an 0-2 mark with a 5.40 ERA in 15 relief appearances with the Brewers before he was designated for assignment on Monday.

The Pirates will make a corresponding move with the 25-man roster after Marinez reports.
